Linus Goes Peru - A Travel Blog
I'm going to be in Peru for about three weeks in December (3rd - 22nd) with my sister Frida, and my friend Anders. I don't know how often I will be able to write here. We'll just have to see :)
This is just a quick and dirty way of displaying my travel blog. If you want to write or view comments go to linusgoesperu.blogspot.com
Dec 21 - The End
Just a quick note. We have been in Lima since yesterday just chilling out. Yesterday we had quite a number of beers at a bar street here. It was crowded as some Peruvian soccer final was going on.
In a few minutes we are heading to the airport for our flight back to Sweden.
It has been a great trip and in a week or so I hope I have a lot of photos posted on
www.linushemsida.com :)
Bye for now :)

Dec 18 - Nazca lines
After spending the night on a bus we arrived in Nazca very early this morning. We were attacked by a bunch of travel agents that wanted to sell us flights over the
Nazca lines. The travel agents were too obnoxious so we ended up fixing it ourselves. 40 dollars per person for about 30 minutes flight in a small 5-passenger Cessna airplane. It was well worth it :) .. The Nazca lines by the way is a small mysterium. They don´t know why there were made but they are very big (as long as 270 meters) and the figures symbolize a monkey, a condor, a dog, a hummingbird and more. One is called "the astronaut" but I doubt that is what the creators had in mind. They are best seen by airplane and unfortunately the photos can only show so much of what we could see up there.

I see now that the photos are quite unclear in this small size :( .. They figures were very cool though :)
After flying over the lines and eating some brunch we took the bus to Pisco where we are now. Pisco is by the sea so now we are back at altitude 0 which we have been waiting for. We have had our fair share of feever, headaches and upset stomachs and we blame everything (almost) on the altitude.. My food posioning is gone by the way, and we are all feeling fine.
Pisco has a small national reserve and tomorrow we are going on a boat ride where we apparently will be able to see sea lions, penguins, pelicans and other animals. And probably some sun bathing too :)
Dec 17 - Sick in Arequipa
We arrived here in Arequipa yesterday after a six hour bus from Puno where we went to a pretty cool museum. They have apparently found four mummies in the icy ground on top of the one of the mountains here. The mummies have been well preserved and are around 500 years old, from the Inca period. The mummies are children that have been sacrificed to the mountain as it was considered a god. It was really cool and the most famous one is called Juanita and she is on display in the museum in a glass freezer. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos.
Later that evening we had dinner and me and Anders thought we should (for the first time) check out the night life here. The dinner was good but not very long after we left the restaurant I felt sick. Frida went home and me and Anders joined some Peruvians, Americans and Brits in one of the bars. I still felt sick and after a couple of hours I had to go home. I probably got food poisoning because I was sick all night and it is first now (5pm) that I feel a bit better. I have tried to cure myself with some Peruvian tea and hope I will be fine for the 10 hour bus ride we have booked for tonight.
We came here to see Colca Canyon but as we realized it is basically a two day trip and a lot of time on a bus to see it we decided to skip it and head on to
Nazca. After Nazca we hope we can spend a day or two on the beach before we go home. Lima was not that interesting so we are thinking about heading straight to the airport on Thursday from a nearby beach resort. We don´t know what to expect of the beach though, so we´ll have to see.
Here are some photos from our Lake Titicaca trip, which by the way was very cool.

Lake Titicaca.

The floating islands
Los Uros that we visited first.

Me and Frida on a reed boat between two of the floating islands.

They sold a lot of textiles on the Uros.

This is our toilet on the "real" island where we spent the night at a local family´s house.

As we recall it one of these men was the "tourist president" and the other "president" of the island.

The sun setting over Lake Titicaca.

Me, Alice (from Australia) and Anders dressed up for party on the island :) .. Frida had feever and stayed in bed :(

Anders showing off his best moves :)
